I am NOT one to rate podcasts, even though they are a part of my daily life. After listening to “The Shadow on the Wall is You,” I felt it was about time.
My following of Mike Rowe goes back to watching “Dirty Jobs” with my kids as they grew up and evolved into watching shows that he narrated as well. I have also embraced his message of the need for people willing to work hard and get dirty in the workforce. I am a high school educator and have long believed that a 4 year degree is not a perfect fit for everyone - my own son for sure! As the podcast evolved from short stories into the longer episodes involving conversations with various guests, it took a while for me to adjust, but I really enjoyed the casual nature of the conversations. Now, I am thankful for the variety of individuals that are guests and have found myself actually making changes in my own life. Change #1 came about after Mike talked to Vinnie Tortorich about NSNG. I am a proud “Rowebie” in the NSNG lifestyle and am forever thankful for the introduction to a much-needed change in my life. Change #2 is my renewed hope in “We the People” - the idea discussed between Mike and Todd Rose. I have since read “Collective Illusions” and am not nearly as disheartened in the state of our nation as I once was. Change #3 is not necessarily personal, but I found Mike’s recent conversation with Scott Strode inspiring and hope that the work of “The Phoenix” continues its work to help those with addictions.
I don’t have time to read a lot of self-help books, but this podcast has brought much needed insight into my life using common sense and humor.
