It's a whole bunch of things you won't eat by themselves, so you put them all together. They are nutritious, lightweight, easy to store. Great for an energy boost. That's why they're perfect to take on a hike. Been around since caveman days. Okay, man, probably didn't put in M & Ms in there, but trail mix. It works great when you're sitting at your desk and you know a little afternoon energy picked me up.

1:08 The basic trail mix is granola, nuts, dried fruit, raisins, and sometimes chocolate. So I'll use today as an excuse to go for a hike or an extra long walk and just enjoy that trail mix. Alright, what happened on August 31st? 1798, the first bank robbery in the United States occurred. It was at the Bank of Philadelphia. $ 162, 821 were taken. Now, that'd be about $ 4 million today. A locksmith, Isaac Davis, he had been hired to change all the locks in the banks, and he did, but he also made a key for himself. Now, he had a very good reputation, so nobody suspected him.

He got the name Jack the Ripper because someone sent a letter to the newspaper claiming to be the killer and signed it Jack the Ripper. Well, the newspaper ran the story and the name stuck. Now let's believe that the letter wasn't from the real killer. It was pretty much a hoax.

3:42 Now, I'm sure pretty. Much all of you have seen pictures of women in the late 1800s, early 1900s, how they dressed in those great big dresses and skirts and all that kind of stuff. Well, today in 1902, Mrs. Adolph Landberg, she. Was an avid horseback rider. She had had enough of those big ass dresses. Nope, she couldn't take it no more. So she is considered the first woman in history to wear a split skirt. Now, she was not trying to make any kind of statement or anything. She just wanted to be comfortable. 1911, the Sullivan Act went into effect in New York City. Now, it was New York's first gun control law. It required that they all had to have a license for firearms and they had to have licenses for concealed carry, but it was actually really a lot more strict than that. Now, you have to fast forward 111 years to 2022. The United States Supreme Court, they overruled that Sullivan Act, said it was unconstitutional. Just general gun legislation would have been sufficient. This was way overstepping the bounds of legal rights of all their citizens.

4:38 Back in the day, it was common belief throughout the mining industry that miners worldwide all pretty much agreed on it. They thought that a miner, a coal miner, with a jackhammer, he could actually mine five tons of coal a day. Well, in 1935, a Russian miner, Alexei Stakhanov, he was able to mine 102 tons of coal with a jackhammer in one day. Now, of course, all the miners, they got BS. No, no, no. They just thought it was a communist plot to try and get the Soviets to get their miners to increase their daily production. But to this day, no one is able to disprove it. So Lesky, he's still the man. His record still stands. Now, one of the greatest days in cinematic history occurred in 1946. The movie Walkie Talkie Hockey premiered. It was the movie debut for Shakespearean actor Froghorn Leghorn. Yeah, sometimes I just like to see how much people are actually paying attention. I would like to see Froghorn Leghorn do Hamlet, though. Can you imagine him giving the speech to be or not to be? Now that I think about it, what's even funnier is that a lot of you probably don't even know who Froghorn, Leghorn, Hamlet, or Shakespeare are. In 1955 in Chicago, the first solar-powered automobile was demonstrated. That was a really short demonstration.

5:49 It got cloudy. Well, let's just see who was born on August the 31st. Comedian, actor, Buddy Hackett. He was one of Brooklyn, New York in 1924. One of the funniest stand-up comedians in history. Now, today, no one would even think twice about his act, but when he started, he was thought to be extremely raw, crude, and vulgar. Some of the movies he was in were It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Herbie the Love Bug, Scrooge, Voiced in Little Mermaid. But his number one passion in life, he loved performing live stand-up comedy. But he married in 1955, and they had three children. He died in 2003 at 78 years old from heart disease. Actor James Colburn. He was born in Laurel, Nebraska in 1928. Actor for 45 years.

6:45 Made over 100 TV appearances in over 70 movies. Almost always played the tough guy. He didn't win an Oscar yet for the movie Affliction. Some of his other movies were The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, Midway, Maverick, Sister Act II, He was married to his first wife for 20 years, and they had two children. Married his second wife in 1993. They were together until he had a heart attack and died in 2002 at 74 years old. Now, Coburn, he was actually good friends with Bruce Lee. Yeah, they hung out. They were buds. Coburn was actually a pallbearer for Lee's funeral. Laughing and running, hey, hey. Skipping and jumping. In the misty. Morning fog with all our hearts.

7:26 Are pumping in you. That's Van Morrison. He's 81. He was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1945. Started out in the band Them in 1964. He left Them and went solo in 1967. He's released 43 albums. Some of his hits are Moon Dance, Brown Eyed Girl, Domino, Wild Night. He still tours. He had a daughter from his first wife, married his second wife in 2006, and they have two children. Actor Richard Gere. He was born in Philadelphia. He's 77 today. He was the first man to be on the cover of Vogue magazine.

8:07 Really got famous, though, for the movie American Gigolo. Then An Officer and a Gentleman, Pretty Woman, Primal Fear, Chicago. Married Cindy Crawford for four years. and he married his second wife for 11 years, and they had a son. He married his third wife in 2018, and they have two sons. Now Firefall, they're still performing and touring and all that kind of stuff. They haven't had a hit since Rick left though. Then Rick left music totally in 1992, came back in 2010. Now he's performing again. He does the oldie circuit, so he performs with other bands and does some solo stuff. I'm trying to figure out my heart. But I can't argue proof of why we should never be apart. And that is the, that is the. That is the truth. I'll shake your love. I just want you to know.
