Prior to starting to write, I was a police officer for twenty eight years and a lot of different jobs on a department from I was a fatality traffic invosser for seven years.

1:07 I was also a bomb dog handler, where I spent ten lovely weeks at Lackland Air Force Base in the federal program with the TSA, learning how to handle a bomb dog. And then the rest of my career has been spent as a field officer, basically what you call a beat officer in a patrol car. That'll be interesting to hear throughout this show. Ideas, when I first started out on the police department, we didn't have computers in our cars. We were tied solely to the radio. That's how you got your calls. And then about the year two thousand, two thousand and two, somewhere rounding there, we got the rocky laptop computers that didn't really do a lot. You've got your calls and you could write your reports because up until that point we hand wrote everything, right, And then that has slowly evolved until now they're completely just a laptop computer that has a ruggedized laptop. But you could buy it, you know that anybody could buy and it runs off a my Fi through Varis and that's how our department does it. And it's completely internet based and you can research and that's how we get all our calls now.

In fact, you can see when you go to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall one into the wall, you can look down the wall and you see and right there at the end you see the Washington Monument.

I'd spent four years writing it because it took me a lot of research, because I did a lot of research into the Vietnam War, which is where it works starts based out of and because it was so such a heavy research it took four years to write.

Yeah, I have, We actually had have patrol rifles on our department where we are issued AR fifteens, so and we have to learn how to shoot them and how to clean them and tactically maneuver with them as well as well as as well as with our Service West weapon which is now a block nine millimere Block seventeen.

It is part of the part of the department. But unlike CSI, where they send the lab takes out to do all the evidence collection, all evidence collection is done by the officers and the detectives. Actor William Peterson. He was born in Evanston, Illinois, in nineteen fifty three. He's seventy two. His best movie was called Long Gone. It was a baseball movie. Then he was born Live and Die in La Young Guns Too, the Contender, But I'm sure everybody knows him best for starting on CSI for fifteen years. He had a daughter from his first wife, married his second wife in two thousand and three and they have a son and a daughter.

Then he divorced his second wife after she shot him, not very hard, she just barely winged him, but he got mad and forced her. Now get this, Kelsey, You know we want to talk about perseverance and survival. Kelsey, he's a good deal about showing him just overcoming. In nineteen sixty eight, when he was twelve years old, his father was murdered. Nineteen seventy five, his sister, she was kidnapped, raped, and murdered by a serial killer. In nineteen eighty, his two half brothers, they were killed in a scuba dive in accident that led to Kelsey, ha have an addiction with cocaine and alcoholic but he never came in and now he's doing pretty good today. So anybody, you can overcome anything as long as you keep plugging along, don't you think, Yes.

Angel about you writing your books. How would you decide how would you describe your Jackson McKenzie chronicles. Okay, the first book in the Eye of The Storm is basically an allegory of how the military uses the scards and forgets its brooken soldiers. It's Jackson's journey as he struggles with PTSD, the moral conflicts and betrayal by the army leadership. And it reflects a broader reality of the systematic disregard of the soldiers will being beyond their immediate utility in war. It symbolizes the larger experience of the many mesans who are abandoned after serving their country.

19:50 He's basically the characters basically a symbol of how he represents the countless soldiers who give everything only to be cast aside. Pretty you've ever heard the the uh the statistic twenty two a day? Yeah you know what that that that means that twenty two veterans a day commit suicide, right, Okay, And that's because the military basically, you know, as it as it said, he did choose a musk amount and and forgets about him. I mean, look at the way the VA system works, where there's basically they wait months to get an appointment. So that's what the book is about.

But it truly is the story of one man and how he's trying to overcome everything that he's gone through. And they're really good boots. But if you read some of the reviewers of them all, they talk about us just how much he nails the sights and the smells and the feelings of being in combat and that sort of stuff.
