You know what, I think we're really going to help someone today or help someone today. My co host she went through a horrible tragedy and she's able to turn that into turning it into helping the rest of us deal with grief and loss. Kelsey, why don't you introduce yourself? Hey Jeff? Hello everyone? I am Kelsey Jaeger and I am so excited to be here co hosting Today by Day. I am a certified life coach, grief coach, and author. I also happen to be a widow, a solo mom to four amazing boys, and I am someone who firmly believes that laughter and healing go hand in hand. So what weird, wild and wonderful things happened on this day in history? Jeff?

1:15 Well, let's start off. Do you like what do you put on your salad? What kind of dressing? I am? You might think this is boring, but I am a vinegar, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil girl. Okay, well we're not going to go healthy today. We're going to celebrate this US boy, chill it so lost and it's rising till it. So it's best and it's.

1:55 Yeah, it is National ranch Dressing Day today. So little fattier than your vinegar and olive oil and stuff. Yeah, I mean, truth be told. I am like, I try to eat as healthy as possible, but I do have a major sweet tooth. I do not have a ranch tooth. So well hidden valley they were out there, there were a dude ranch outside of Santa Barbara, California, and they got known for the dressing they were putting on their salads for their guests out there. But who knew that just buttermilk and a whole bunch of herbs was huge. A ranch dressing was actually created by a Nebraska plumber who was working up in Alaska. His name was Steve Hanson in nineteen forty nine. But nowadays ranch it's not really healthy. But it's not for salads anymore either. It's gonna be used for dips, for chips and French fries.

2:38 People put them on sandwiches and burgers and pizza. Pretty much anything you want, you can put it into ranch dressing, all rightunless he's going on entertainment on March tenth. Let's go back to nineteen ninety nine. Number one album was Baby One More Time from Britney Spears. Monica had the number one song with Angel of Mine. Quin salut Already. There was something inside of you, something A tupted ne fit. Am. Dixie Chicks out the number one country song with You Were Mine.

This Psychiatrist is number one. Patient is a mob boss who has serious insecurity issues. It starts Billy Crystal, Robert De Niro, and Lisa Kudrow. Now, you actually started out in the aerospace industry. Right, Well, I started off in the medical industry as a registered nurse. Oh, and then I got pulled into the aerospace industry by my husband when he started an aerospace company.

4:13 Oh that's that's kind of a kind of a funny leap. There, right, and then I went from there to grief coaching. So go figure. Yeah, we probably never figured out. Rumor has it that you never thought you did? But you wrote yourself a really good book, didn't you? I did? I did. My book is called A Million Miracles and the One That Never Came, and it shares my personal personal journey through love, loss and finding purpose again. And I believe that even in the darkest moments, we can still create a life filled with meaning and joy.

4:57 You know, I think all my co hosts are cool. Otherwise I wouldn't want to hang out and talk with them. But I look for a little you know, kind of you know, I wanted like an independent opinion too. I went on Amazon and looked at your book's reviews. Man, it's a couple four stars, but all of them are five stars, and the reviews are just phenomenal. All they keep talking about is a page turner, can't put it down, and man, it is really impressive. Yes, yes, I am shocked how many people tell me that they finished my book in one setting or just in you know, a couple of days, because it's not it's not a short book, but they all tell me I just couldn't put it down. And so, as an author and it's my personal story, it really warms my heart to hear that.

5:45 Well, that is cool. So that definitely means it's not just a book that's out for right now that's going to be way. We're helping out people for years, I believe. Yes, yes it is. It is a very impactful book. Oh okay, Well let's see what happened. On March the tenth, teen eighty three, the last naval battle the United States Revolution was fought was off of Cape Canaveral, Florida. United States beat the British. Yes, Captain John Barry and his ship the Alliance. They were able to capture the British ship Sibylly. Now, if you go down there, have you been to a historical marker side? Have you ever been there? I have? I have. It's not too too far from me, just a few hours from where I left. So yes, I have. But so I guess you go and then you can look out on the ocean where it.

6:27 Took place, right, Yes, And I can sometimes see the rocket launches from my house. Oh that's really cool. Yes, it is very cool. Eighteen sixty four, General Ulyss He's s grant. He was named commander of the entire Union Army. Wasn't he didn't start off that way? Eighteen seventy six, the first telephone call was made. Alexander Graham Belly called his assistant Thommas Watson, who is just in another room. Bell simply said, mister Watson, come in here. I want to say you. Well, he did just see. You know the reason Watson was able to answer the phone. Watson's one who actually invented the ringer for the telephone. Now Belle, he actually wanted people to answered the phone ahoy. But later on when Thomas Edison got ahold of it and started Robly Pool missing, he changed didn't wanted everybody to say hello. Eighteen ninety three New Mexico State University, they had to cancel their first graduation ceremony Sam Steele. He was the only graduate from the school in that first class. Sadly, Samy was killed in murdered the night before the graduation ceremony. Nineteen twenty two, Denver's first radio station KLZ went on there it's still there if you want to go listen to AM talk radio. So you're kind of young. So in nineteen ninety seven, Buffy the Vanfire Slayer debut on TV.

7:35 Were you a Buffy fan? I was not. I was not a Buffy fan, but I was in high school at that time, and I definitely remember Buffy the Van Player Slayer, but I was not a fan. I thought it was a little ridiculous, to be honest. Now you now your company is It's Rise with Grief and Loss and you do a lot of coaching and stuff to help other people suffer and get through it and all that. So you do individual and but just I know you have a newsletter. Yes, so I do one on one private coaching. I have. A self guided coaching program that's all online. 8:48 So the people who come to you with their help are they the ones who immediately you know they just lost and they have nowhere to go, or have they been trying to fight through it themselves and they just realize, Hey, I need help. I can't do this alone. Both both. I have people that reach out to me. I mean I've had people reach out to me the day after their loved one died, all the way up to clients that it's been six seven years. And so I meet my clients where they are in their grief and I help them navigate through it and find a path way forward. And I think that'd be the hardest point for you, is to find the path because everybody's so different. I mean some people it's I think a lot would probably just be guilt. They don't know that they're allowed to be happy again.

9:39 Keelt is a huge thing in grief, and you're right, everybody's different, everybody's at a different place. There's no right or wrong way to do grief. It's very individual. It's a it's a universal experience, but it's a very individual process. And so that's why I and they meet everybody where they are and work with them individually. Well that sounds great. Somebody out there going to do that because I mean, that's not really a fun subject, but it might be a little therapeutic for you also as you're going through helping your clients. Yes, you know, I never ever thought that I would be talking to people about grief and loss all day, right, If you would have asked me five years ago, I would have thought you were nuts, and then if you told me that I would love it, I would think you were really, really crazy. But I do love it so much, and it is so fulfilling and rewarding for me to see the shift and the change in my client's life and they're grief from when they first come to me to and as we work together, and for me it is very therapeutic. It gives purpose to my.

10:55 Pain, I bet, and it's almost like you're witnessing almost what lack of better to rebirth almost of them to back in their lives. Absolutely exactly exactly that, which is why the name of my company is called Rise because we rise from the ashes. We literally our world burns to the ground and we can rise from the ashes and we don't leave our grief behind. It's not something that we get over. It comes with us. And so that's the name Rise with Grief. And that's probably one of the biggest thing. You have to let the people know that you're always going to have the grief, but you have to just live and get past it and kind of a different chapter in your life.

11:42 Basically, right, Yeah, your grief becomes a companion for the rest of your life. But as you learn to move through it and process it, and you gain tools on how to navigate it. It shifts and evolve and changes, but it's always there. It just doesn't have to be so debilitating and controlling. Yeah. See, people, I told him we were going to teach help somebody out today. All right. I think you were still in high school for this. Because on a scene in Texas where the.

12:32 Rangers, you're a Chuck Norris fan. Uh. I do know Chuck Norris. I don't know that I would call myself a fan. I've never heard that song before. Is that one of his songs? I thought he was an actor. He is that. Back in the nineties, he decided he was going to be a singer, and he had a show called Walker, Texas Ranger, and he decaid he was going to sing sing the theme thongs. He sing the theme song. So that's what Okay, Okay, I have some thoughts about that, but I think I'll keep him to myself. Your thoughts are pretty much everybody else in the nineties thought too. So Chuck Darris. His name is actually Carlos. He was born in Ryan, Oklahoma. He's eighty five today.

13:14 He looks pretty good for eighty five. Actually he's still keeping himself in pretty good shade. Now. He did learn martial arts until he went into the Air Force. Yeah, and then when he came out, he then so good. He started winning martial arts championship, ended up on his own dojo out there in California, started training celebrities. Then Bruce Lee asked him, Hey, you want to come play the villain in my movie Way of the Dragon. He said, sure, why not. After he did the movie, Steve mc queen and told him, hey, you know you should take this acting seriously. So Chuck did the movie Good Guys Wear Black, and uh yeah, never turned back. Now he's done over thirty five movies and now he's always a total badass in the movies. But you know how Chuck, he's tough. And then there's all those jokes about how tough Chuck Norris is. Dude's only five nine hundred and seventy pounds.

13:54 Oh no, kidding, I didn't know he was that short. He's a loop guy. Now, him and his first wife, they got divorced after thirty years. They had two children, I think, and the reason for the divorces he had another kid on the side. He married a second wife in nineteen ninety eight and they have two children now. Chuck he's a black belt in tang sudo Brazilian jiu jitsu judo. He even created his own discipline. It was called Chunk cuc Do. That was back in the sixties, but by now they just call it the Chuck Norris system.

14:42 You're a fan of surf music. I am a fan of surfing. My whole family surfs. My boys are very very big into surfing. In fact, we're going on a surf street trip next week for spring break. But I can't say that I love that surf music. Well, I'm really not negative. It seems like I'm negative today, but I'm really not. I'm really not. I promise, I promise. But you know who Jan and Dean are though. Right, I don't, But I am gonna. I just learned he got them, Okay, we just learn about them. So you want me to tell you what I learned? Sure? Okay? So Dean of Jan and Dean. He's eighty five today, born in Los Angeles, and he and Jen Jan met in high school. They would sing together after football practice.

15:34 They were joined by future actor James Brolin, and they formed Jan and Dean in nineteen fifty nine, and a couple of years later they met up with a guy named Brian Wilson. They do know who that is, and he gave them a song he wrote called Surf City, and it became the first surf song to go number one, and the rest of the Beach Boys were pretty mad at Ryan. And some other Jan and Dean hits are a Little Old Lady from Pasadena, Drag City, Dan Man's, dead Man's Curve, sidewalk Surfing, and in nineteen sixty six, at the height of their popularity, Jan wrecked his car a couple of blocks from dead Man's Curve and they were never the same and Dean married in nineteen eighty three.

I mean there were before my type too, But basically, you know how now you have all the bands from the nineties coming back, So we had the bands from the sixties coming back when we were in like high school. Okay, okay, okay, that makes sense. That makes sense. Cool. Do you know who else's birthday today? Actress Sharon Stone? Guess how old she is? I think she's probably older than she looks. This is true. She looks amazing. I cannot believe she's sixty seven. That blows me away. She was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, and she started out as a model. Her first starring role was in a movie called Velocity of Gold, and then she was in Total Recall, Basic Instinct, The Quick and the Dead. She was nominated for an Oscar for the movie Casino. She's been divorced twice and she has a son from her second marriage, and she has two adopted sons.

It was created by Bill Cosby as a spinoff from The Cosby Show back in the eighties. It was supposed to star Lisa Bonet, but it ended up starting actress Jasmine Guy. She was born in Boston sixty three today. She played Whitney on a Different World and she was later on she was on Touch by Angel. She did the Vampire Diaries. Some of her movies are School Days, Harlem Knights, Stumped the Yard, home Coming. She married once for ten years and they had she had a daughter from it. We chair you might have danced Anina Cherry in your diaper. She's sixty one. She was born in Stockholm, Sweden.

18:57 Her half brother. Do you know the musician EAGLEYE Cherry? No, I don't. Yeah, let's hit songs in the sister. But they both had like one big song. Now they're both like I said, they were in Sweden. Their mom was Swedish and she ended up marrying a blues musician who was over there and his last name was Cherry, and so basically that's how they came to be and then that's how they got into music. Now, Nina. In order to get big in music, she moved to England in nineteen eighty two had they had song seven seconds Kisses in the Wind Buffalo Stance. She still releases and does a lot of music over in Sweden and tours Europe and stuff. She had a daughter from her first husband, married a second husband in nineteen ninety and they have two daughters.

In nineteen eighty five, she joined the band The New Bohemians and when they got their record record deal, the record company changed their name to Edie Brikel and the New Bohemians.

He had hits Eyeletter, Lie, Too Much Fun, A Men Kind of Love. He married his second wife in two thousand and three and they had four children, but sadly, in twenty eighteen, at just forty six years old, Darryl died and they never have released how but it is believed that he had a massive heart attack and it wasn't anything fishy.

Probably his parents are actress Gloria Lauren and Alan Thick. Now Robin. He did a lot of songwriting before they let him sing. Then. Some of the big songs since then is Lost Without You, Love, After War, Sex Therapy, blurredy Lines. He's been a judge on Masked Singer since he started in twenty nineteen. Now he and his wife they've been together twenty one years. When they divorced, they had one child. Now he's been engaged and they have three kids.

She has twenty two number one songs. She's the third most famous female country singer behind Reva and Dolly. Harry has been singing the opening for Sunday Night Football since twenty thirteen. In twenty ten, she was married and she has two sons.

I don't know if you knew that, and I and her husband got He was playing for the Nashville Predators where they you know, that's how she met it. Well, he got traded up to Canada, and so this radio station came on and says, until they bring him back, we're never playing another Carrie Underwood song again. And it got blown up and it just went viral, and nobody could believe this radio station did well. They didn't play Cary anyway. It was a heavy metal station. Oh well, there you go. Actress Olivia Wilde is forty one. She was born in New York City, grew up in Washington, d C. She started out on TV in the OC.

25:09 Fun fact, The OC was filmed in my neighborhood. So when I watched the OC growing up, and while I would see them filming it as I went around town. And so she was started out in the OC and then went into movies Tron Legacy, Cowboy and Cowboys and Aliens, The Change Up, Deadfall. Olivia was buried for eight years. After she divorced. She was with actor Jason Suda Keys. Did I say his name right? I think it's I'm bothered that.

Okay, Now, now, grief, you know, when we're talking about it, we're having fun with it and everything. Can it like with terminal patients when they helped to have a grief coach as you're before the person dies. So grief is grief comes from any sort of loss. And so my husband passed away from leukemia at the age of forty. He battled for five hundred and fifty nine days. During that time, there was so much grief that he experienced that I experienced. And could I have used a coach at that time, absolutely yes, But he have used a coach at that time, absolutely yes. I think anytime you are in something that is just so completely overwhelming and life changing, you can benefit from somebody to say, here, take my hand, and I'm going to show you the way through this, and that's exactly what I do.
