19 Hi everyone, I'm Jeff and welcome to History and Factoids About Today. Today is November the 1st. Now, of course, you all know that yesterday was Halloween. So that means it was All Hallows' Eve. Yeah, today is All Hallows' Day, or best known as All Saints' Day. Now, today is to honor and show reverence for the saints that are canonized and the unknown saints out there. Now, All Saints' Day, it's not just a Catholic celebration. Now, Lutherans, Methodists, a lot of the other ones are all into it. Now, All Saints Day, it's been celebrated since around 609, 610, somewhere around there. So if you're Christian, you know, show some honor and reverence for your saints today, those that we know have been canonized and just those that have guided people to Christ on their own. Now, tomorrow is All Souls Day. See, now that day, it's a prayer for everyone who has died. So it's kind of sad and somber. But All Saints Day is celebratory and festive. Now, if you want to celebrate today, you can celebrate with a calzone.

11 Give it a calzone in my mouth, yeah. Yesterday is also National Calzones Day. Basically, calzones are just folded over pizza. They sure taste good, though. Calzones, they came from Naples, Italy in the 1700s. Now, you put what you like on them, so you have to like it. You made it. Now calzones, they are really high in calories, so put off your post-Halloween diet for another day. Now a lot of local places are having deals today, but none of the national ones. Now today is also November the 1st. In November, it means 9, which is when it was in the 9th month. The November full moon is called the beaver moon. Birthstone is topaz. Birthflower is chrysanthemum. Men, guys, boys out there, as long as you can shave. So you can participate in Movember. Today, what Movember is, is guys, you're supposed to grow a mustache. So it's to raise awareness for men's health issues, whether it's either cancer or for mental health issues. So what you do is you shave on today, the 1st, and you don't shave again until December 1st. So you can see how you can grow your mustache. So something to think about anyway. Let's see what happened in entertainment on November the 1st. Back to 2024, just a couple years ago. Beautifully Broken by Jelly Roll was the number one album. Morgan Wallen had the number one song with Love Somebody.

38 Oh, I've tried. But every time a fella kiss me, I keep coming up empty. I just want to love somebody who won't leave a hole in my heart. Number one country song, too. I just want to love somebody that don't want me falling apart. And I'll be lucky if I ever find something more than just a crazy lie. I just want to love somebody who ain't hypnotized by dollar signs and blinding lights.

22 That's enough of that. All right, the number one book was The Boyfriend by Freda McFadden. Top movie was Venom, The Last Dance. Eddie Brock and Venom, now they're being chased by a mystery military dude and alien monsters from Venom's home planet. Stars Tom Hardy, Chewito, Elijah Ford, and Juno Temple. In 1894, a trade magazine called Billboard Advertising began publishing today. Now, it covered everything to do with billboards, how to build a billboard, how to maintain a billboard. how to get advertising for your billboard, all that kind of stuff. Then after a couple years, they just started concentrating on focusing on entertainment. See, entertainment, they were the leading advertisers who used billboards. Then in 1930, they started tracking the music that was played on jukeboxes, radios, and what was sold in stores. Yep, even today, billboard magazine charts, yep, they're the industry standard. All right, let's see it happen on November the 1st. 1512, Michelangelo, he unveiled his paintings on the ceiling in the Sistine Chapel. It had taken him four years to paint those. Most of the time it was on his back. If you don't know Sistine Chapel, it's in Vatican City. 1800 had President John Adams and his wife Abigail moved into the President's House in Washington, D.C.

34 First ones to do that. Now it won't officially become the White House until 1903. 1896, a Zulu woman over in Africa. She became the first bare-breasted woman to have a picture of herself in the National Geographic magazine. Over all those years, there have been 529 pictures of bare-breasted African women in National Geographic. No, I did not do that research. In 1911, Italy and the Ottoman Empire, they were at war. Now, at a battle in Libya, Italian pilot Giuliano Givati, he dropped four four-pound grenades out of the side of his airplane onto the Turkish troops. Yeah, it's probably 600 feet high, somewhere around there. It's considered the first aerial bombing. Now, the Ottoman Empire, it was basically Turkey. And the whole Ottoman Empire, it started back in 1299. It ended today in 1922, not because of that aerial bombing in 1911. No, they just pretty much lost all their power and they didn't have any authority or anything like that. So they actually changed their name from Ottoman Empire to Turkey in 1923. Why Turkey? Well, for a couple of thousand years, the people who lived in that area, man, they were called Turks. 1946 in Poland, Karol Wojtyla, he was ordained a Catholic priest. He will come up to be Pope John Paul II. 1950, two Puerto Rican nationalists, they tried to assassinate U.S. President Harry Truman. Now, it was in Washington, D.C., and the White House police, they were able to stop the assassination attempt. But one of their officers, Leslie Caulfield, he was actually killed. And then one of the Puerto Ricans, he was killed. The other one had some serious gunshot wound, but he pulled through.

03 He went to trial. He was convicted for it and sentenced to death. While Truman, he commuted his sentence to life. But, of course, Jimmy Carter let him go in 1979. Hockey in 1959, Montreal Canadiens goalie Jacques Plante. He became the first goalie in history to wear a fiberglass face mask. Yeah, up until then, no other goalie had ever worn anything to cover their face or their head. So the reason Jacques started doing it, well, puck it in the face, breaking his nose and fracturing his eye socket. So I guess that's a good enough reason. Can't believe it took him that long. Now, sometimes, you know, I don't even need to read the story. I can just read the headline and tell you exactly what the problem was. 1965, over in Egypt, a trackless trolley plunged into a river, drowned 74. Football in 1966. The NFL, they awarded a new team, an expansion team, to the city of New Orleans. Now, since it happened on All Saints Day, they named their team the New Orleans Saints. That's a cute story. I wonder if it's true. 1977, President Jimmy Carter, of course, he raised the minimum age from $ 2. 30 to $ 3.

04 35 an hour. It will go into effect in 1981. 1982, Honda, they built the first factory in the United States in Marysville, Ohio. They were the first Asian car company to start building cars in the United States. They started building the Honda Accord. In 1990, Accord ordered Mike Tyson. He had to pay Sandra Miller $ 100 for fondling her breasts. Now, she was suing him $ 2. 5 million for fondling his breasts, but nope, $ 100. So $ 50 a breast, that's not so bad. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, shawty, it's your birthday. We're going to party like it's your birthday. We're going to sip a card like it's your birthday. And you know we don't give up because it's your birthday.

49 All right, let's check out who was born November the 1st. Don't see and you can't feel the wind that's blowing at my back and saying move on. You think this burning fever in my heart is just a folly. And I'm throwing away my happiness by leaving you. Well, it's my life. Throw it away if I want to. That was Bill Anderson. He's 89. He was born in Columbia, South Carolina. Bill, he's the longest to ever be in the Grand Ole Opry. 64 years. Went in in 1961. He still performs some, too. Some of his number one songs are Mama Sing a Song, Still, I get the fever.

33 My life throw to faith. I want to. Now he's been married twice. He had two daughters from his first wife and one from his second wife. She said, I'm looking for a cowboy to take me. For a ride. He can't roll me on the prairie. He can't ride me on the plane. And I will be his sender of love if he'll be my cowboy name. Staying with country singers. Lyle Lovett. He's 69. He was born in Houston, Texas. He got his first record deal in 1980. He's won four Grammys. Some of his hits are Cowboy Man, Give Me Back My Heart, She's No Lady. He married actress Julia Roberts for a couple years. He's been married to a second wife since 1997, and they have twins, a son and a daughter.

22 I don't want to be a miser. I'm fine with slaying, be no miser. It goes back to the left and up, right up. How come everybody want to keep it like a Kaiser? That lead singer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers is Anthony Kydus. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1962. He's 64 today. Moved to California when he was 12. That's where he met Flea and the other guys from the band. Started out calling themselves Tony Flo and the Miraculous Majestic Masters of Mayhem. Luckily they changed the name to the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1983 and sold 120 million records since. Under the Bridge, Love Roller Coaster, Californication, Give It Away. That's some of their biggest hits. Now, Anthony, he started doing drugs young, like 14. Now, he had a lot of trouble with drugs over the years, but he's been clean since 2000, so good for him. He has one son. It's from a former girlfriend. Rick Allen.

45 He is the drummer for Def Leppard. Now the words, he's the one who says it at the beginning of that song, Rock of Ages, gluten, gleaving, glouting, globing. They're just made up words that record producer Mutt Lang came up with before the song. Rick is 63. He was born in Dronefield, England. Joined Def Leppard when he was only 15. Dropped out of high school two years later when they started to take off. 1984, he crashed his Corvette. He lost his left arm. No one believed him at the time, but he said he was going to still drum again. The guys from Def Leppard, they kind of just took a couple years off and let Rick do what he did. Well, Rick, he designed a drum kit. where he could play using one arm and his feet. Today, he's considered one of the top ten drummers of all time. He had one child from his first wife, married his second wife in 2003, and they have one child. Yeah!

47 She is Sophie B. Hawkins. She was born in New York City in 1964. Makes her 62 years old today. Now that B, it stands for Ballantine. See, Sophie Hawkins was already taken when she started out in 1990, so she had to come up with something. Some of her hits are Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover, Right Beside You, As I Lay Me Down. Now, she's pretty much just been an independent artist for over the last 20 years. Yeah, her and record companies, they do not get along at all. Sophie, she just finished up for tours, so you might have to wait until probably next year. She has two children. Actress, TV personality, Jenny McCarthy. She's 54. She's born in Evergreen Park, Illinois. She first got famous as a Playboy Playmate of the Year. Then she hosted a whole bunch of shows on MTV.

29 Her first movie were Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead, then Basketball, Scream 3, Scary Movie 3. On TV, she's been on Masked Singer since 2019. She had a son from her first husband, and then she married Donnie Wahlberg in 2014. All right, our quote of the day. It comes from First Lady Mamie Eisenhower. She died today in 1979, 82 years old. Mamie says, Every woman over 50 should be able to sleep in bed until noon every day. Okay. Well, thank you all for listening. Every summer around this time I sit right here in our spot where I watch the tide coming in I can. Feel him again so I roll the windows down and let it all. Roll in He pushed me up against the car We forgot about the rain We stayed, we caved Been stuck in that moment Thought he was the.

15 One and All of these memories. Come back with every stain I wanted to run after him so bad, but. He said it's just a matter of time. He promised he'd come back and I put my trust in that. So I keep the windows down cause this feeling's never gonna pass. We forgot about the rain, we stayed
