18 Hi everyone, I am Jeff and welcome to History and Factoids About Today presented by Cool Media. Today is November the 3rd. Sandwiches are beautiful, sandwiches are fine. I like sandwiches, I eat them all the time. I eat them for my supper, I eat them for my lunch. And if I had a hundred sandwiches, I'd eat them all at once. Today is National Sandwich Day. Today is the birthday of John Montague. He was the fourth Earl of Sandwich. Now, he loved playing cards, and he didn't even want to take a break from playing cards to go eat. So instead of eating meat with his fingers and getting the cards all greasy and stuff, his servants put bread on the outside of his meat. Yep, that's how the sandwich was born. That was around 1760. I mean, sandwiches, they have changed a lot, but they're still a love staple of people's diets. Get to it. Who's having deals today?

07 Firehouse Subs, Jimmy John's, Popeye's, Subway, a whole bunch of them, Slotsky's. But if you don't go out and buy one, yeah, just make yourself a Dagwood sandwich. Okay, let's see what happened to entertainment on November the 3rd. Let's back to 1985. Number one album was the Miami Vice TV soundtrack. Stevie Wonder had the number one song with Part-Time Lover. We are undercover fashion on the run Chasing love, oh Alabama had their number one country song with Can't Keep a Good Man Down. The number one selling book was Texas by James Michener. The top movie was Deshwish 3. Here, Paul Kersey, he goes back to New York City, makes a deal with a dirty police chief, and he goes after a street gang that's causing all kinds of trouble.

30 Stars Charles Bronson, Deborah Raffin, Ed Poyter. 1962, Billboard Magazine, they dropped the Western. Yep, it was no longer the Country and Western chart, just the Country chart. Come a long way since they started in 1942, then they called it the Hillbilly chart. All right, what happened on November the 3rd? 1838 in India, the Bombay Times newspaper started printing. Today, it's called the Times of India. It is the largest selling English newspaper in the world. They print 3 million copies every day. Now, women, they'd been wearing breast support garments for a long time, but it was today in 1914 that things changed. Mary Jacob, she was a New York City socialite. She invented the first garment that actually lifted and supported women's breasts using cuffs and straps. She called it the brawl. 1957, in the Soviet Union, they launched Sputnik 2 into space. It had a stray Siberian husky on it named Lika. Now, it was the first animal ever to go into space. Soviets, they never had any intention for the dog to make it back alive, and it didn't. 1964, residents of Washington, D.C., they were allowed to vote in the presidential election for the first time, well, since the year 1800. 1992, in Randolph, New York, no one ran for the job as the city judge. 20-year-old Joshua Warmer, he wrote his name in on the ballot.

44 He won by one vote. So now he was the judge of Randolph, New York. He got paid eight grand a year to listen to minor court cases. In 2014, the 104-story One World Trade Center opened up. Yep, in New York City. It was 13 years after the 9-11 attacks. It is the seventh largest building in the world, 1,776 feet. So, I was born on November the 3rd. Stephen F. Austin. He was born in Wythe County, Virginia in 1793. He is actually known as the father of Texas. It was 1825 he led the first 300 people to establish an American settlement in Texas. Yeah, he's that Austin. But the experts, they don't think that that Austin, Texas, is where the Austin today is. I think it's probably about 50 miles different.

41 He did promote Texas a lot and got a lot of people to come out and settle in Texas. Now, he didn't fight in the war for Texas independence against Mexico. He kind of took both sides. But then when Texas won, he sure ran for president. But he lost to Sam Houston, who actually fought. Austin, he died of pneumonia in 1836 at 43 years old. Actor Charles Bronson. He was born in Erinfield, Pennsylvania in 1921. He was 11th of 15 kids. Now in the 1970 Bronson, he was the number one movie box office draw in the whole world. Some of his movies, The Magnificent Seven, The Dirty Dozen, Death Witch movies from noon till three, 10 to midnight. He had a son and a daughter from his first wife. Then he married actress Jill Ireland in 1968. They made 15 movies together and two kids. Jill died in 1990. Charles married his third wife in 1998. They were together until he died in 2003 from respiratory failure. 81 years old.

46 It's kind of a cute song. It's called Boom Banga Bang. It was sung by Lulu. She's 78. She was born in Lenox Town, Scotland. Her biggest hits here were the two songs from James Bond movies, To Serve With Love and The Man With the Golden Gun. That's pretty much here in the United States. Had a lot of big success over there in the UK, though. Her first husband, Maurice Gibbs, from the Bee Gees. They divorced after four years, and she married a second husband at 14 years, and they had one son. Now, Lulu, she is celebrating her 60 years as being a professional singer with a farewell to her. Yeah, she's going all across Britain to do it. But the whole thing was sold out, so she's extending her farewell tour throughout November, if you get a chance to go to Britain to see Lulu. Actress, comedian, Roseanne Barr is 74. She was born in Salt Lake City.

35 When she was 18, she moved to Colorado. She had a baby, put it up for adoption, and then started performing in comedy clubs. Now, she hit absolutely huge in comedy clubs. Then she got her own specials and all that kind of stuff. Finally got her own sitcom, Roseanne. Some of her movies, not so huge. She Devil, Look Who's Talking To, and Freddy's Dead, The Final Nightmare. Now, that girl that she put up for adoption, they did reconnect later on in life. I mean, they're not close or anything. I mean, she did have parents who raised her. But I guess they're cordial. Then she got married and had two sons and three daughters from that husband. After they divorced, four days after that divorce, she actually married Tom Arnold for a couple years. Then after Tom, she married a bodyguard for a couple years, and they had a son. But I guess she was done with marriage after that. She's been living with her boyfriend since 2003.

21 Comedian Dennis Miller. He was born in Pittsburgh. He's 73. He was a successful stand-up comedian, but then he joined Saturday Night Live to host the Weekend Update. Now, he's still the best Weekend Update host they've had. And after that, he went and did, he hosted quite a few TV shows. He had his own syndicated radio show. He still tours doing his stand-up act. Some of his movies were Bordadello of Blood, The Net, and those drug dirt movies. Dennis, he married in 1988, and they have two sons. Actress Kate Capshaw. She's also 73. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas. Her biggest movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. She was also in Dreamscape, Space Camp, The Quick and the Dead. She had one daughter from her first husband.

03 Then she married Steven Spielberg in 1991. They have two sons and three daughters. And then you put their kids together. They're like nine, nine kids. So Kate, she retired in 2001. Just want to concentrate on being a mom and doing her paintings. Now, before The Price is Right, Drew Carey, he had his own sitcom. It's called The Drew Carey Show. His antagonist on the show was a woman named Mimi. She was played by Kathy Kinney. She is 72. She was born in Stephen Point, Wisconsin in 1954. She's in the movies The Three Fugitives, Arachnophobia, Lenny the Wonder Dog. Now, other than the fact that she is Drew Carey's best friend, we know absolutely nothing about Kathy Kinney's personal life. Adam Ant.

59 He is also 72. He was born in Marylebone, England. Started out with the band, the Adam and the Ants. They had dog eat dog, ant music, ant rap. But the ants, they didn't like Adam at all, so they quit and they formed their own band, Bow Wow Wow. So now it was just Adam Ant Solo. Still is. He's still really big over in England, though. So they had to hit Solo, Goody Two Shoes, Room at the Top, Viva La Rock. Now, Ant, I guess they don't like water because he's the only tourist in England. He married twice, and he had a daughter from his second wife. Six-foot, five-inch actor Dolph Lundgren is 69. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1957. Been in over 80 movies. First hit big, playing Ivan Drago in Rocky IV. Then Master of the Universe, Universal Soldier, all those expendable movies. Creed II. Now Dolph, he was down in Australia going to school. He was getting his master's degree in chemical engineering. Hooked up with Grace Jones. Well, Grace, she wooed him to come back to Los Angeles with her. So he did. He quit school and headed up there. Got up there and they broke up. So Dolph went. He still got his degree, but he is movies. and acting in order to try and pay for all the bills. Good call. He had two daughters from his first wife, married his second wife just last year. Now, Dolph, he has been fighting kidney cancer since 2015. So we sure wish him the best, but sure doesn't look like it's slowing him down any.

15 Let's talk about sandwiches some more. Now, for some, I don't know why it did it, but they had to go to court. And in 2006, a court officially ruled that the definition of a sandwich is two pieces of bread with something edible in between. Well, thank you all for listening today. And don't forget about Country Underground Radio. It has really taken off. We want to thank you for listening to it. I'm glad you like it. We're starting to get, we're not going to start playing until after Thanksgiving, but some of the artists are starting to already trickle in some of their Christmas songs. And so we'll do it like last year. We don't go all Christmas or anything. We just kind of like play them in or out. you know, interweave them in. Okay, sharpshooter and western performer Annie Oakley. She died today in 1926, at 66 years old. And he said, I ain't afraid to love a man, and I ain't afraid to shoot him either. All righty, our Country Underground Radio Artist of the Day. It comes from Rapid City, South Dakota. Tim up there. I think Tim's a little mad. That's okay, Tim.

10 He wants to hear the Whiskey Cheeto Ramblers song, Truth. So, Tim, I hope you have a better week, and y'all have a great day, and we'll talk tomorrow. You can talk shit about me to our friends And tell them all I'm the reason we didn't make it till the end You can even have all my favorite songs And tell your mom I'm the reason you had The truth is you never loved me the way The truth is You're a bitch
