0:19 Welcome to History and Factoids About Today. I am Jeff, and today is November the 8th. Today is National Cappuccino Day. Basically, a cappuccino, it is a double espresso with stained milk and some sprinkles. Espresso, that's the key there. In the late 1600s, Catholic monks, they created the cappuccino. Now, the espresso machine, it was invented in 1901, so that made it a lot easier to make. 1930s, Italy, they actually coined the term cappuccino. It means coffee topped with whipped cream and sprinkles of chocolate or cinnamon. Now, they started serving cappuccino in those little tiny cups in the 1950s. Now, cappuccino didn't take off in the United States until the late 1980s. Yeah, after Starbucks exploded over there. It is the weekend. So we can actually go a little harder if you want. Yeah, it's also National Harvey Wallbanger Day. 1952, a bartender named Duke Anton, he created a Harvey Wallbanger in his bar in Sunset Strip in Hollywood. Yeah, he named it for a surfer dude who would come in. Yeah, Harvey Wallbanger. Now, it's just vodka, Galeano liqueur, and orange juice. Well, it sounds like kind of a good day just to do both. Let's see what happened to entertainment on November the 8th. Let's go back to 2025. Number one album was The Life of a Showgirl by Taylor Swift. Taylor
1:51 had the number one song with The Fate of Ophelia. Luke Combs had the number one country song with Back in the Saddle. The number one selling book was Gone Before Goodbye by Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Corbin. Top movie was Black Phone 2. Finn, he's now 17 and struggling with life after captivity. Stars Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, and Madeline McGraw. All right, what happened on November the 8th?
2:57 In the year 313, Constantine, yeah, he made Christianity legal. Yeah, so they could no longer persecute Christians anymore. But it was the day in 380, Roman Emperor Theodosius, he made Christianity the official language of the Roman Empire. But I don't know if he really understood it, though. See, he threatened those who didn't practice Christianity with punishment. 1731, in Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin, he opened up the first library in North America. Now, people, they had to pay dues, and then they could borrow books and use the library. 1789, in Bourbon County, Virginia, which is today Kentucky, Elijah Craig, he distilled the first whiskey from corn. Before then, all whiskey had been made from rye and barley. I mean, they still use rye and barley for whiskey. But for it to be bourbon, yeah, you have to use corn. 1837 in Massachusetts, the Mount Holyoke Female Seminary was founded, the first woman college in America. Yeah, 80 women went in that first class. Now, it's still there.
3:54 It's just the Mount Holyoke College. And it's still a woman's college, except now they accept transgender students. So, yeah, it's co-ed. Happy birthday, Montana. 1889, Montana became the 41st state. The Spanish named it. It means mountainous. Montana is the fourth largest state by area. It's the 43rd most populated state.

Now, Montana, they have the shortest river in the world. It has the Rogue River. It is 201 feet long. You can look it up if you don't believe me. 1910, in Spokane, Washington, William Frost invented the electric bug zapper. That's pretty cool, but what's even cooler is he actually called it the electric insect destroyer. Now, that's a lot better. 1956, the United Nations, they demanded that the Soviet Union leave Hungary. Now, I mean, they could eat what they wanted, but they wanted them out of the country of Hungary. saw the Soviets left in 1989.

Tried to bribe her with a bone I took her for a walk.
