19 Hi, I'm Jeff, and welcome to history and Factoid's about today. Today's October the twenty fourth. My baloney has the first ninety. It's os. My baloney has. A second namage. Aye, arm I. Love Julia every day if you love me. Wilf Cavascabaya has. A wayless theology. Today is National Bologney Day. Now. It's named after the Italian city of Bologna. Now over there they call it mortidella, and they make it with sausage, large chunks of fat and pepper, So that's mordidella. Here in the United States, we make blown it from ground meat, usually scraps of pork or beef for chicken or turkey, usually one type. But they do combos and all that kind of stuff, and we don't put chunks of fat in it. Yes, I'm saying it right. In the United States, we do say blooney, not Bologna. Ah, let's go gold old school today. Yeah, let's have ourselves a blowna sandwich.

21 We can make it up as fancy as we went, but if we really want a gourmet, yeah, we can have a fried bologna sandwich. That's some good eating right there, all right, let's see what's going on in entertainment. In October twenty fourth, Let's Go Out to Your twenty eleven numb one album was Clear as Day by Scotty McCreary. Adele had this number one song was Someone Like You. It Is No Never Fine sou Wish, Nothing but the Best. Dogain Blake Shelton Nod the number one country song with God Gave Me You Say. He had quite a few others actually. Nineteen eighty eight John Fogerty, Yeah, he

52 went on trail. He was accused of plagiarizing himself see an old record company and discovered that they had just a sliver of royalty still, so they went to court. They said that when John was with Creeden's Clear Writtery Revival. He wrote a. Song called run through the Jungle. Now that he was solo, he had changed that into old Man down the Road. Well, the coat court, yeah, they rolled the chart for Fogarty. Yeah, they decide, Yeah, you don't have to pay yourself or the record company.

45 You got. Steel Man's Down Roads. I think Fogerty was guilty. I think he should have had to pay up all right. That it had happened on October the twenty fourth, in the year seventy nine, Mount Vesuvius, it might have erupted, you know how when it erupted at Bird the city at Pompey, and then like four other cities. See, the experts are fighting though. They can't decide whether it happened today or on August twenty fourth. So I guess which did happen. It really must change a lot of things, or why would they care. Eighteen sixty one, the first trans continental telegraph was sent. I was sent from San Francisco to Washington, d C. Now, well, telegraph lines running across the country. They have no need for the Pony Express.

29 It actually closed two days later. Now it costs five hundred thousand dollars put in that first coast to coast telegraph line. But in twenty seven thousand, five hundred poles. Now, actually they started the Mississippi River telegraphs on the east side of Mississippi. They were already done. All they did was follow the Pony Express route. Yeah, they had the easiest route, so they just followed that. Also, in eighteen sixty one, West Virginia succeeded from Virginia. No way were they going to be part of that South nineteen oh one, Annie Taylor she wanted to celebrate her sixty third birthday, so she grabbed her cat and survived, going over Niagara Falls in a barrel and surviving. Yep, she was the first person to do it. So Annie, she was a broke, out of work school teacher and she did it to get rich and famous.

10 So she had a barrel built of oak and iron. Then she used a mattress for patting. Her biggest problem was getting people to help her out. No one wanted to participate in what they thought was suicide. She finally was able to talk some guys in helping her out, so she climbed into the barrel with her cat in a heart shaped pillow. Then the guys they screwed the lid on and now there was a little hole in the side. So they took a bicycle pump and pump some air in it. Then they put a cork in that. Then they rode out to the middle of the river. It just let her go, that's right. So after she went over the falls, it took about twenty minutes for her rescuers to get to her. Yeah, she was pretty much fine. She just had a gash in her forehead and that's probably by the cat, because he's pretty pissed. Now. Annie, she made a little bit of money right off the bat, and then yeah, all the publicity died down. She didn't make grow squat from it. She ended up dying pennyless in nineteen twenty one. The public actually had to donate in order to pay for her funeral. Nineteen oh eight, that song take Me Out to the Ballgame You had hit the charts. What they would do for music stores is you would buy the sheet music.

19 So somebody had come out with the sheet and yeah, and you'd grabther the sheet music and go to her house and then you would play and singing and home. See that's where du Pontma's headquartered. And then the ones who made them. So they were such a big hit and they were so popular that you actually had to prove that you lived in Wilmington in order to get them. Yeah, if you didn't have any kind of idea, they wouldn't sell them to it. Now they did go and sell the rest of the country. In May nineteen forty four, are in the United States Navy pilot David mccampbell. He shot down nine Japanese warplanes in one mission. He was at the Battle of Late Day Golf. Now that record it still stands, and he did survive the war too.

01 He ended up with getting thirty four actually aerial victories, so he is still the Navies all time leading flying ace. Nineteen sixty in the solvi Union, a prototype missile exploded on the launch pad build one of their highest ranking generals. Guild also over one hundred other people.
