It's been his life, just like his dad's. Driving away, under the weight of the badge. Today is National Have Coffee with a Cop Day. Now, today it has a couple of goals. First is to remind everyone that police officers, yeah, they're people. They're your neighbors. They go to your schools and your churches and their ballgames and all that kind of stuff. They're part of your community just like you are. But their main job is to protect you, and that kind of puts an invisible line that's been drawn out there. So today I want to remind everybody that, hey, they're just citizens just like you are. So it's okay to say hi to them or talk to them and that kind of stuff out in public. It's Community Relations Day, basically. Now, a lot of towns and cities, they are having have coffee with the cop day. Yeah, they're celebrating with coffee and donuts all over town. So if you can't attend, go to one of those. And if not, if you see a police officer today, just kind of wave or say hi, something like that. Let them know that, yeah, you think that they're persons too. And thank them for what they're doing. Okay, let's see what happened in entertainment on October 7th back in 1971. Now, we all know that Christopher Columbus never set foot on or even saw America. But today, in his logbooks, it shows that in 1492, he actually changed his original course. Now, had he stayed on that course, yeah, he'd have run right into Florida. 1571, the Battle of Lepanto is one of the most important naval battles in world history was fought. Now, Muslims and Christians, they'd been fighting since 622. Then by 1571, the Muslims, they were led by the Ottoman Empire. That's basically in Turkey. Now, they control pretty much all the Middle East, North Africa, the Balkans. That's Southeast Europe. But now the Muslims had their sights set on Europe and all of Europe. So Pope Pius V, he organized a coalition of the states in Italy and Spain and pretty much Austria and Germany and that whole thing to try and stop them. So the Christians and the Muslims, they met off of Greece.

3:48 Now the Ottomans, they did not know that the Christians had actually improved their ships. Yeah, they had a technical advantage there. So the Christian fleet was led by a 24-year-old. Yeah, Don Juan. Yeah, he wasn't a real guy. He was from Austria. I know, naval power. But the Christian leaders and officers, after years of just getting crushed by the Muslims, they were pretty hesitant to go into battle. Not Don Juan. He simply said, gentlemen, this is not the time to discuss. It is time to fight. Then he ordered the attack. Now, Don and the Christian ships put a major butt whooping on the Muslims. In five hours, over 33,000 Muslims were killed. 8,000 Christians were killed. Now, it would end up being the deadliest one-day battle up until World War I. So that's a long time ago. Now, it was the last battle that was fought by ore-powered ships. That's kind of cool. Now, the Ottomans, they pretty much lost most of their navy, so they were really never a power again after that. Now, get this. When the ships were sinking and all that, they ended up getting 12,000 Christians who were actually being held as slaves on those ships that were sinking. Now, before that battle, Pope Pius V, he and other papal leaders and Christian leaders and stuff, they asked for a prayer for all of Europe to try and help bless the soldiers. And so a lot of the Catholics, they were praying the rosary. So it worked. It stopped the Muslims.

5:05 And that's why if you're Catholic, yeah, October is National Rosary Month. So you're supposed to say the rosary a lot this month. 1714, Alkma, Netherlands. One of the biggest riots in the history of the Netherlands took place. See, the citizens, they were told that the government was going to start taxing beer. He invented carbon paper. I don't know how many of you are old enough to remember that stuff. They pretty much stopped using carbon paper in the 1980s. But you can still go buy it. Yeah, some people still use it. I don't know what for. In college football in 1916, Georgia Tech. Now, they were coached by John Heisman, the guy that the trophy is named after. Well, they beat Cumberland College 222 to nothing. That's the most lopsided score in football history. 1959, Soviet spacecraft Luna 3. It took the first pictures of the back side of the moon, or the far side of the moon. Some people call it the dark side of the moon. But it gets just as much sunlight as the side that we see. Now, the two sides of the moon, they are different in appearance-wise. See, the far side of the moon is really covered in craters of all different sizes and all that kind of stuff, and the crust is thicker than the side that we see. Now, this record still stands. It was 1965 in Omaha, Nebraska, at the 10th hole in the Miracle Hills Golf Course.

But John liked it, so as soon as he got big enough, he changed it to John Cougar Mellencamp. By 1991, he was big enough where he could just be John Mellencamp. Sold over 60 million records. He is three times divorced. He had one child from his first wife, two from his second, and two from his third. For those of you who don't know the cello, yeah, that is really good. That was Yo-Yo Ma. He is an American cellist who was born in Paris, France to Chinese parents. 71 years old today. Now, Yo-Yo. Now, Yo-Yo Ma in China is pronounced Ma Yo-Yo. Now, he

8:39 is most known famous cellist of all time. Probably the only cellist anybody ever knew. Now, he was a child prodigy. He was performing by the time he was four and a half years old. He's recorded 92 albums, won 19 Grammys. Now, his music, it goes from traditional Chinese melodies to American bluegrass to Argentina Django, everything in between. And he does perform classic orchestra stuff. He's on tour. Yep, if you want to see him, you'll be able to. He's on tour until June, so you can check him out. Got married in 1978, and they have a son and one daughter.

9:30 That was Christian singer Michael W. Smith. Now, he took that song place in this world up to number six on the pop chart. He is a contemporary Christian singer. Michael, 69. He was born in Canova, West Virginia in 1957. He's won 45 Dove Awards, three Grammys, 33 of the songs have gone to number one on the Christian chart. Now, he's also written 14 books. Now, Michael, he married in 1981, and they have five children. No, he's not Catholic. He's Protestant. Simon Cowell, he's 67. He was born in Lambeth, England in 1958. now he was a maybe a semi-successful record producer talent scout kind of stuff then he had huge with the idea of tv talent shows started off with the x factor in britain and then britain's got talent then of course american idol now that american idol franchise they have shows all over the world like Canadian Idol, Australian Idol, Iraq Idol, Brazil Idol, Pakistan Idol, Taiwan Idol, all that kind of stuff. 56 different versions of American Idol. Well, yeah. So it's quite the franchise old Simon's got going there. Now, he's been engaged since 2013, and him and his fiancée have one son.

It was called Braxton Family Values. Now she had two sons from her first husband. She married her second husband just last year. In a beautiful world.

He was born in Wellingboro, England in 1968. 58-year-old helped form Radiohead in 1985 and sold over 30 million records. Some of their hits over here in the United States are Creep, Pie and Dry, No Surprises. Now, he does a lot of solo stuff on the side, and it's nothing like Radiohead. His solo stuff is all electronic. Yep, no instruments, just all electronic. He had one son and one daughter from his first wife, married his second wife in 2020. All righty, our quote of the day.
