We're actually saying put it in your mouth because it's my stomach talking to me. It's about our mouth because we're the same person. You know what I'm talking about. I'm singing about your hoagie. Today is National Eat a Hoagie Day. Now you can call them subs, torpedoes, po'boys, grinders, heroes. Yeah, they're all hoagies. Just long bread sandwiches filled with what you love to eat. Hoagies, they go back to about the time during World War I out in Philadelphia. They're still fighting over who came up with the first one. Now, if you don't feel like going out today, you can have fun making your own hookah. You can go all Dagwood on it and everything.

1:04 A lot of local places are having deals, though. All right. Let's see what happened on September 14th back in 1998. Number one album was The Misadventures of Lauryn Hill by Lauryn Hill. All right, what happened on September the 14th? Well, during the War of 1812 and 1814, Francis Scott Key, he was on a ship out there in the Baltimore Harbor, so he watched the British just shell the hell out of Fort McHenry. Watched it all night long, and he was surprised as hell when the sun came up and the flag was still saying. Yep, he couldn't believe it was flying. So he was so inspired, he wrote the poem, The Defense of Fort McHenry. Well, later on, they changed that poem. Yep, we know it as the Star Spangled Banner. Now, during the Civil War, Britain, they said that they were going to be neutral. Yep, they were not going to take a side on the north side, no south side. Nope, they were going to be neutral. Then they ended up giving the South some ships. Well, actually what they did is they hired pirates and they had their pirates change the names of their ships to sound like Confederate Navy ships.

3:09 So yeah, and then they had the pirates attack Union merchant ships. Now the pirates, they did a really good job. One ship, the Alabama, yeah, that's what the pirates named it, it sank or stole over 60 Union merchant ships. The Union, they finally did sink the Alabama, but they had to fight with those pirates the entire war. So when the war was over, the United States was pissed off. They took Britain to court. They said that, neutral my ass, they sued Great Britain. They wanted to be paid for all the damage those pirate ships caused. The United States actually won the case. In 1872, Britain had to pay the United States $ 15. 5 million for the damages those pirates caused. 1899, Henry Bliss, he became the first person in the United States anyway to die from an automobile accident. He was hit by a taxi while walking down the street in New York City. See, if you're in a car, you're actually safe because the speed limit was only like eight miles an hour, so you couldn't get hurt in there. 1901, eight days after being shot, United States President William McKinley died.

4:06 Ted Theodore Roosevelt, yep, he was sworn in as the 22nd president of the United States. Now, he is 42 years old, so that makes him the youngest U.S. president we ever had. What about John Kennedy? John Kennedy was 43, so he was the youngest elected president, but Teddy, he was the youngest president to actually serve. Also in 1901 at Albert Hall out there in London. Now the world's first bodybuilding contest was held. Five foot, eight inch, 189 pound Paul William Warren. He won it. I guess he was huge. Now we're celebrating National Hogi Day, but over in India, they're celebrating National Hindi Day. 1949, a compromise was reached. See, they were trying to draft the India's new constitution and they were fighting over it. But Hindi, it was declared to be India's official language.

4:50 Yeah. So I guess if you speak Bengali or Marathi, you're probably not celebrating. Today. In 1956, IBM, they introduced their RMAC 305 computer. It was the first computer with a hard drive. That computer weighed one ton. 1959, the Soviet Union spacecraft Luna 2. It was the first spacecraft to impact the moon. Yeah, it was supposed to be the first spacecraft to land on the moon, but it never slowed down. So it was the first to impact the moon. But they hit it, so I guess glass half full. 1960, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela formed OPEC, Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. Now there are 12 countries in OPEC. 1963, out in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Mary Ann Fisher gave birth to the first surviving quintuplets in the United States. Four girls and one boy.

5:37 They're all still alive, so happy birthday to Fisher quintuplets. Now, Mary wasn't done, though. Next year, she had another girl. Yeah, she had another daughter. But get this, you had the Quintuplets and you had their little sister, right? That's six kids. Before they had the Quintuplets, they had five kids to start with. 1975, Pope Paul VI, he canonized American nun Elizabeth Ann Seton, made her the first American-born pope, or saint anyway. So yeah, she actually, in the early 1800s, she had formed the Sisters of Charity. Charity's still there. 1984, MTV, they hosted their first video music award show. Yeah, now most of you are probably too much younger, but the big bands are the big winners all the time. They were the Cars and David Bowie. Now get this, MTV, music television, they have not aired a video since 2008. Okay, let's see who was born on September the 14th. On TV, the original Lone Ranger was played by Clayton Moore. He was born in Chicago in 1914. Played the Lone Ranger from 1949 to 1957. It was TV's first successful Western.

6:54 But when Clayton, when he was only eight years old, he was already an acrobat and a trapeze artist in a circus. He did it until he graduated high school. Then he moved to California. He did some modeling. He was a stuntman. Of course, he was the Lone Ranger. Then after the Lone Ranger went out there, Clayton, he just quit acting. He became a real estate agent. He died from a heart attack in 1999 at 85 years old. He was married to his fourth wife, and they had a daughter. Actor Sam Neill. He just died in July at 78 years old. He was born in Omagh, Northern Ireland, 1949. Now, he grew up in New Zealand, though. Best known for playing Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park movies. He was Damien in Only in Three. Also in Hunt for Red October and Escape Glam. Now, Sam, he had two sons and two daughters by three women, and I think he was married to one of those women. Robert Prevost, he's 71. He was born in Chicago. He is best known as Pope Leo XIV. Now, he's the first pope from the United States, or from North America, anyway. He grew up in Dalton, Illinois, outside of Chicago. He went to Catholic schools all the way through. Then he went to college at Villanova. After he graduated from Villanova, he came back to the Chicago area. As he was going to get his master's and his doctorate from the seminary, he was actually teaching math and physics to the high school kids over at the local high school there. He got ordained a priest in 1982. Then he was given a missionary job over in Peru, 1988, and he accepted it. 2014, he was named a bishop over there. Then in January of 2023, Pope Francis, he named him a cardinal deacon.

8:21 So he said, but you have to come back to the Vatican to do it. He goes, I don't want to come back to the Vatican. I like it here in Peru. He said, you have to come back. So he came back, and then in February of 2025, Francis made him a cardinal bishop. Then a couple months later on May 9th, yep, he'd be on the fourth ballot. That's how it took. He was named the pope. Pick Leo XIV. Yeah, he was a total underdog. No one thought he'd be the one picked. Aha!

9:06 The lead singer for the group A-Ha is Morton Harkett. He was born in Kongsberg, Norway in 1959. 67 years old today. Now, A-Ha, they formed in 1982. Now, it's only three guys. Their music's all electronic and guitars. Sold over 100 million records, though. Pretty much all in Europe, though. Here in the United States, three songs. That's all they had chart. Take On Me, The Sun Always Shines On TV, and Cry Wolf. Now, Take On Me, that song, Take On Me, it's the only Norwegian song ever to go number one in the United States. Now, Harkett, he married once and had three children from it. After they divorced, he's had two more daughters from two other women. Actress Mary Crosby, she's also 67. She's born in Los Angeles. Now, her famous dad is Bing Crosby. Now, Mary had one of the biggest roles in the history of TV. She's the one who shot J.R. on Dallas. She married her second husband in 1998, and they have two children.

9:58 I've seen the beauty of diamonds and pearls. But they ain't nothing, baby. Your love amazes me. Country singer John Berry. He's also 67. He was born in Aiken, South Carolina. Some of his hits are Your Love Amazes Me, Standing on the Edge of Goodbye, She's Taken a Shine, What's in it for Me. Now every year, John does a really cool Christmas tour. This year it's starting on November 27th and it's going to run through December 23rd. So it's the 29th year he's done it.

John's been married for over 30 years and him and his wife have one daughter and two sons. Actress Melissa Leo is 66. She was born in Manhattan, New York. Now she won an Oscar for The Fighter. Yeah, she was the mom of both those fighters. She's also been in Conviction, Olympus Has Fallen, Oblivion, London Has Fallen. She had a son from actor John Hurd. Actress Faith Ford. She was born in Alexandria, Louisiana in 1964. 62-year-old started off on daytime soap operas. First One Life to Live and then Another World. Then she hit really big on Murphy Brown. She was nominated five times for Emmys for it. Then she starred in Hope and Faith, except for some reason she was Hope. Faith, she married her second husband in 1998. Actress Kimberly Williams Paisley, she was born in Rye, New York in 1971. She is 55. She first got famous in the Father of the Bride movie. She was the bride. She was also in Identity Thief and We Are Marshall. On TV, she was on the sitcom According to Jim for eight years.

11:42 She married country singer Brad Paisley in 2003, and they have two sons. That was Amy Winehouse. She was born in Southgate, England in 1983. And she only released two albums. She won six Grammys, and her second album sold over 16 million copies of it. Now, she had a big hit, actually. It's called Body and Soul with Tony Bennett. Now, as successful as her singing was, her life was a total train wreck. I mean, she married twice, was married one year for both times, and then she had a really bad drug and alcohol addiction. I mean, it was really bad, which obviously, yeah, caused problems with the police. Sadly, she joined the 27 Club. Yep, she drank herself to death in 2011. All righty, our quote of the day today.
