Yummy, yummy, yummy chicken pot pie. Give me some chicken pot pie. Oh, yeah, chicken pot pie. I'll eat it till the day I die. I really love the crust. You must, you must, you must try. Today is National Great American Pot Pie Day. Woo-hoo! Pot pies, they've been around since ancient Rome. Now, every culture in the world has some kind of pot pie, their own version of it. That's why we're celebrating the great American pot pie today. Woo-hoo! Now, it is fall officially now, so it's getting a little chillier. So pot pies, they kind of taste a little better when it gets a little colder. That flaky crust filled with chicken, beef, or pork, and all those vegetables and gravy, yeah, that's a good eating. Not really any deals going on today.

1:14 That's okay. Just enjoy your pot pie today. Let's see what happened in entertainment on September the 23rd. Let's back to 1979. Number one album was In Through the Outdoor by Led Zeppelin. The Knack had the number one song with My Sharona. Oh, my little pretty one, my pretty one. When you gonna give me some. Time, Sharona? John Williams had the number one country song with It Must Be Love.

The number one selling book was The Last Enchantment by Mary Stewart. Top movie was Apocalypse Now. It's over in Vietnam. United States Army officer. He has to go kill a special forces colonel who's gone crazy. Yeah, the colonel thinks he's God. Stars Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall, and Martin Sheen. Lawrence Fishburne, Harrison Ford, Dennis Hopper. Yeah, there were a lot in that movie. Back in 1962, ABC aired their first TV series that was in color. It was The Jetsons.

2:42 I know. So do you know what year the Jetsons lived in? 2062. So we have like 37 years before we get to the Jetson time. All right, what happened on September the 23rd? Well, let's start off with the largest, most extravagant feast that they held during medieval times. It was in 1387 in London, England. Now they held it to celebrate King Richard II and Prince John of Gaunt. Now, I don't know how many people were there to eat, but they served 14 oxen, 120 sheep, 1,200 pigeons, and 11,000 eggs. That's a lot of food. 1779, American Revolution. United States Navy Commander John Paul Jones. He was on the U.S. ship, the Bonheim Richard. Now, he was taking on the much bigger, a lot more gun, more manned. Yeah, it was a superior ship. It was a British Navy ship called the Serapis. Well, after they exchanged fire for about three hours. Now, the United States ship, yeah, it was no match for that Serapis. It was burning and it was starting to sink and everything. The British yelled out, are you ready to surrender? Jones yelled back, I have not yet begun to fight. Then he lassoed the Serapis and he was able to thrash his ship to it. Then a couple of his men threw a bunch of grenades on the deck. And when they went off, him and all his men, they jumped on the deck and basically the British all surrendered. So he cut his ship loose and let it sink. And then he just sailed away on his new British warship with all his British prisoners. 1806, after three years, Lewis and Clark, yep, they got back to St. Louis today after their expedition

4:14 to the Pacific Ocean. Now, over the years, a lot of astronomers had predicted that it existed, but no one could actually prove it until 1846. German astronomer Johann Gale, he found Neptune. That's right, our eighth planet. Yeah, he found it finally. Neptune didn't know Neptune. It takes 165 Earth years to orbit the sun one time. So why did so many astronomers actually think Neptune existed? Well, they saw a little wiggle in Uranus. Funny, but it's true. 1875, Billy the Kid, he was arrested for the first time. He was 15 years old. He had stolen some clothing from a Chinese laundry in Silver City, New Mexico. He escaped two days later out of their jail. Japan in 1889, Nintendo was formed.

4:57 Yeah. Fujimiro Yamiachi. He basically started the company to make and sell playing cards. They made their first video game in 1975. 1897, up in Cheyenne, Wyoming, they held the first Frontier Days Rodeo. Now it's the world's largest outdoor rodeo. So next summer, it'll be between July 17th and the 26th. So if you're into carnivals, country music, and rodeo, yeah, it's something you should probably check out at least once. 1932, Abdulaziz Ibn Sa'd. Now, he decided he was going to combine his two kingdoms. He had one that was called Najd. The other one was called Hijaz. So he merged them all into one kingdom, Saudi Arabia. Now, in 1932, Saudi Arabia, it was poor. It was one of the poorest countries in the entire world. Then in 1938, an American oil company discovered oil there. Yeah, they weren't poor anymore.

5:46 Okay, he was born on September the 23rd. Robert Bosch. He was born in Albright, Germany in 1861. So what did Robert do? Well, in 1902, he invented the spark plug. Now, that might not seem like very much. But without the spark plug, there is no internal combustion engine. So Robert died in 1942, a very, very, very rich man at 80 years old. A personal cook. She was named Mary Mallon. She was born in Cookstown, Ireland in 1869.

6:30 I just got that. Now, she came to America when she was 15 years old. Now, she was a very successful private cook, well-known. She had cooked for a bunch of rich people all over town in their houses. But she became a lot more famous for being typhoid Mary. Yeah, when she was cooking in people's homes, she actually infected at least 122 people that they know for positive that she gave typhoid fever to. Now, she never got sick. No, never got sick from it. She was just a carrier. And they know at least three kids died from typhoid fever that she had given them. I think up to possibly 50 people may have died from her, but they can't prove it all for sure. Well, they finally had to put Mary away. They locked her up and quarantined her for 30 years. Yeah, she was locked up by herself until she died at 69 years old in 1938. No, not from typhoid. I told you she never got it.

7:16 She died from a stroke. Actor Mickey Rooney. He was born in New York City in 1920. Started acting at three years old. He was in his prime when he was between 15 and 25. That 10 years, he made 43 movies. When he was 19, he was actually the first teen major nominated for an Oscar. He acted for 90 years, made almost 300 movies. Now Mickey's leading good man looks and his strapping five foot two frame made him a favorite of the ladies. He was married eight times. Now he was married to his eighth wife for 34 years. Now he had nine kids scattered out between all them wives. Mickey died from natural causes in 2014 at 93 years old. Ray Charles is born in Albany, Georgia in 1930. And by the time he was seven, he was completely blind.

8:01 Yeah, they think he had glaucoma. So they sent him to a school for the blind. When he was 14, he left the school. He went out and played piano for $ 4 a night in the clubs. From 1958 to 1990, Ray charted 80 songs. Now, that's only behind Elvis' 108 and James Brown's 101. They only charted more during that time than Ray did. Some of his hits are Hit the Road, Jack, George on My Mind, What I Said. Now, Ray said he lost his virginity at 12 years old.

8:46 Didn't see it coming. That was bad. Now, he must have really liked it, though. He ended up having 12 kids from nine different women. Ray, he died in 2004 at 73 years old from liver failure. Told the girl what I want. Before That is Julio Iglesias. He's 83. He was born in Madrid, Spain in 1943. He is a best-selling Latin artist of all time. Sold over 150 million records. 14 different languages. Now he started out as a professional soccer player. Yeah, he was a goalie. He did okay, but after four years he quit soccer and started performing full-time. Performed over 5,000 concerts in front of 60 million people on five different continents.

9:44 Now he was married to his first wife for eight years and they had three kids. Julio Sr. and Julio Jr. and Enrique. Two of those three. Then he married his second wife in 2010, and they have five kids. Green-eyed lady. Lovely lady Strolling slowly towards. The sun Soothing every raging wave that comes. Only 2% of all the women in the world have green eyes. That was Jerry Corbetta. He was singing for the band Sugarloaf. Jerry was born in Denver, Colorado in 1947.

10:31 Helped form Sugarloaf in 1968. Their original name was Chocolate Hair. Some good call on changing that. They had this green-eyed lady. Don't call us, we'll call you tongue-in-cheek. Broke up in 1978. Then Jerry, he went with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. They call them the fifth season. He had one son. Jerry died from Pick's disease in 2010 at 68 years old. It's a type of dementia, kind of like Alzheimer's. Like a river that don't know where it's flown. I took a wrong turn and I. Just kept going Everybody's got a hungry. Heart Everybody's got a hungry.

11:12 Heart Bruce Springsteen. He's 77. He was born in Long Branch, New Jersey. Sold over 150 million records. He married his second wife, Patty, in 1991, and they have two sons and one daughter. It's better with a band. Ask any bass or soprano. From the Met to Dixieland. Singing, maybe swinging, but baby. That was Tony Award winning actor Jason Alexander. He was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1959. Jason is 67 today.

11:57 Now he's best known for playing George Costanz on Seinfeld. Now he was nominated for an Emmy seven years in a row for it, but he never did win. But George is kind of a loser. Now Jason, his biggest love is Broadway. He loves doing live theater. A couple movies he was in were Pretty Woman and Shallow How. Jason married in 1982 and they have two sons. Actor Anthony Mackie is 48. He was born in New Orleans in 1978. He played Tupac in the movie Notorious, and he's in The Million Dollar Baby, The Hurt Locker. Now he plays Sam Wilson. Sam, he was the Falcon in six movies, and now Sam is the Captain America in the last two. Anthony, he married once, and he has four sons from it. All right, our quote of the day. It comes from Hall of Fame running back football player Gale Sayers. He died today in 2020 at 77 years old.
