Greece But they have actually been created in countries all over the world. Pretty simple concept, so every culture pretty much figured it out. Like Europe, they started with crepes. Indonesia, they use rice and coconut. Uganda, they make theirs with bananas. Ecuador, plantains. Here in America, yeah, we make our pancakes with every flavor you can think of, so you'll find one you enjoy today. Well, if you can't celebrate today, there's another pancake day in February. Let's check out what was going on in entertainment on September 26th back in 1969. Number one album was Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Archie's had the number one song was Sugar Sugar.

It's all about the notorious outlaws. Paul Newman, he's Butch, and Robert Redford, he's Sundance. Now, Redford, he falls for Catherine Ross, who plays Etta. Catherine, she's married to Sam Elliott. They've been married like 40 years or so. Ah, this should happen on September the 26th. 1580, Francis Drake and his men, they arrived in Plymouth, England. Took them 33 months to sail all the way around the world. Now, he made it back. Remember, Magellan didn't make it back, so Juan Encano, he actually got credit for being the first one to sail around the world. But Drake and his guys, yeah, they were the first ones to map it. 1789, Thomas Jefferson, he was sworn in as the United States' first Secretary of State. Also, John Jay, he was sworn in as the first U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice. Just a little side note. Back with all these founding fathers are getting sworn in and all that kind of stuff.

3:04 This is kind of interesting. Now, they were all trying to set up America so it could sustain itself for generations and generations. Not Thomas Jefferson. No. See, Jefferson, he wanted the U.S. Constitution. They thought it should be written every 19 years. Well, yeah, he considered 19 years what a generation was. I said, well, why would you want that? And he said, well, he didn't believe that the dead should be able to govern the living. 1918, in World War I in Western France, the Meuse-Argonne Offensive began. It lasted for 47 days. Now, over 1 million U.S. soldiers fought in it. Now, it did actually lead to Germany surrendering in World War I, but it is the deadliest military campaign in U.S. history. 26,277 U.S. Soldiers were killed and over 120,000 were wounded. Now, this would suck, and I'll have to admit, I'd have probably gone up there and beat the crap out of the guy, and not for political reasons. 1960, Cuba's Fidel Castro. He gave a four-hour and 29-minute speech to the United Nations.

4:01 That night in 1960, 75 million people watched the first televised presidential debate in U.S. history. Richard Nixon and John Kennedy went at it. Now, what's interesting is the people who actually watched the debate on TV, yeah, they thought that Kennedy won, and those that listened on the radio, they thought Nixon won. I think probably Kennedy. He might have been just a tad bit more handsome than Nixon. That's probably why he won TV. 1973, the supersonic jet the Concorde made its first flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Flew from Washington, D.C. to Paris, France in 3 hours and 33 minutes. 1990, the movie rating NC-17 was created. That means no child under 17 can go to the theater and watch that movie, even with parent or guardian.

4:42 So what happened to the X rating? Well, the X rating, it had gotten taken over by the porn industry. So regular movies, they didn't want to be associated with that. They said, okay, porn, you can have X. We're going to go NC-17. So yeah, the first NC-17 movie, it was called Henry and June. It starred Uma Thurman, Fred Ward, and Kevin Spacey. Now it contained lesbian sex scenes, nudity, but it wasn't porn. It actually got nominated for an Oscar. Oh, and it showed a postcard of a Japanese girl and a squid going at it. Okay, let's go see what TV shows started on. September the 26th. 1962, the Beverly Hillbillies debuted. 1964, Gilligan's Island. Brady Bunch, they debuted in 1969.

5:23 Knight Rider debuted in 1982. 1990 had Cop Rock. And 2010 had Downtown Abbey. Okay, who was born on September the 26th? Johnny Appleseed. Now he was born John Chapman in Leominster, Massachusetts in 1774. So yeah, he was a real guy. He wasn't just a folktale. Now he was actually a Christian minister. Now, he is responsible for apple trees being planted in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Ontario, Canada, some other places. See, apples aren't native to the United States. Well, those tiny little crab apples. But apples you eat are not native to the United States. So, yeah, he's the one who brought them. Now, he didn't just walk around scattering seeds or anything like that. What he did is he planted orchards and nurseries. Then he'd get people to watch it. And then they would sell the trees to farmers and landowners. So, yeah. Now, the way he lived, he was probably the first hippie. He just traveled around planting and selling trees. Now, he did die suddenly in 1845.

6:36 He's 70 years old. He's buried in Fort Wayne, Indiana. If you want to go see his grave. Now, in the classic Christmas movie, Miracle on 34th Street, the guy who played Chris Kringle was Edmund Gwynn. He was born in London, England in 1877. Won an Oscar for playing Chris in that movie. He had a pretty good movie career. He was in a lot of Alfred Hitchcock movies. He died from a stroke in 1952, just a couple weeks before his 82nd birthday. Pope Paul VI, he was born Giovanni Montini in 1897 in Consisio, Italy. Now, he was the 262nd Pope. His reign started in 1963. Now, he is thought to be the first modern Pope. See, he was the first Pope to ride in an airplane, first Pope to visit Israel, and the first Pope to visit the United States. He died from a heart attack in 1978 at 80 years old. He became a saint in 2018. Now, most of you are too young to remember Jack LaLanne.

7:31 He's the godfather of fitness. He's the one who started it all. Jackie was born in San Francisco in 1914. In 1936, he opened up the first gym. Then from 1951 to 1985, he had the Jack LaLanne TV show. It was the first exercise show. I mean, it was the first exercise show by about 25 years. Now, he wrote books. He sold exercise equipment. Then he would do these famous feats of fitness. For example, to celebrate his 70th birthday, he swam one mile pulling 70 rowboats with people in the rowboats. Now, it wasn't a magic trick or anything. He was just showing off how healthy and strong he was. Now, he married his second wife in 1959, and they had three kids. In 2011, Jack, he wasn't feeling so well. He hadn't actually felt well for a while, but he would not go to the doctor. Well, after finishing his morning workout, yeah, they had to rush him to the hospital. He ended up dying from pneumonia. 96 years old. Country singer Marty Robbins.

8:23 He was born in Glendale, Arizona in 1925. In the late 1940s to early 1980s, he was one of the top country. Artists out there. He released 52 albums, and then that song I played, El Paso, it went to number one on the pop chart. Now, with the money he made from his music, Marty, he was able to actually finance his own NASCAR team. That's right. He raced NASCAR for 13 years. Did it between shows. Now, he did have seven top ten finishes. He even got married in 1948, and they had a son and a daughter. Marty died in 1982 at 57 years old. It was during quadruple heart bypass surgery.

9:14 Well, the first thing you know, old Jed's a millionaire, the Ken Foley. Oh, they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly. Hills, that is. Swimming pools. Movie stars. The Beverly Hillbillies. Actress Donna Douglas was born in Pride, Louisiana in 1932. She played Ellie Mae Clampett on the Beverly Hillbillies. Now, earlier, I mentioned how the Beverly Hillbillies debuted today, 1962. So that was on Donna's birthday, her 30th birthday. Who would have thought that Ellie Mae Clampett was 30 years old? Now Donna, she was really tight cast as Ellie Mae. Yeah, she couldn't get an acting job for Squad afterwards. So she became a real estate agent and she sang gospel music. She had a son from her first husband then she had a really quick marriage after that she died in 2015 from pancreatic cancer at 382 years.

She was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1947. Now, she was a pioneer in country music. She was one of the first female country singers that they allowed to write some of her own songs. Sold over 30 million records. Some of her number one songs are that one, Rose Garden, You're My Man, Keep Me In Mind, What a Man My Man Is. And she had a daughter from her first husband. Then she had two kids from her second husband. Now, she divorced him after he tried to run her over with a tractor. So she just moved in with the guy in 1989, and they lived together until she died in 2015, 67 years old. Yeah, she had a heart attack.

Now that was the second song that Olivia Newton-John released. It was back in 1971. Went up to number one on the U.S. adult contemporary chart. Now, she did release another song five years earlier, but it didn't do anything, and you can't really get a good copy of it, so that's screwed. Now, Olivia, she was born in Cambridge, England in 1948. What? Yeah, she moved to Australia when she was five. Sold over 100 million records. She is the most top-selling female Australian artist of all time. Actually sold 20 million more records than Kylie Minogue. Now, Olivia, her song, Physical, it was the number one song of the whole 1980s. As an actress, she was in Grace, Xanadu, two of a kind.

12:02 Now she had a daughter from her first husband. She married her second husband in 2008. Olivia, she fought breast cancer three times and finally got her in 2022 at 73 years old. Actress Linda Hamilton is 70. She was born in Salisbury, Maryland in 1956. Her first movies were Tag, The Assassination Game, Children of the Corn, and Stoneboy. Then she hit huge in her fourth movie. She played Sarah Connor in The Terminator. Of course, she had that old Terminator franchise. She did play Catherine on Beauty and the Beast on TV. She was the beauty. She had a son from her first husband. Then she married director James Cameron. They had a daughter. Then James Cameron, he offered Linda the role of playing the unsinkable Molly Brown in the movie Titanic. Linda, not only did she say no, she said she wanted a divorce. Yeah, she found out that James was sleeping with one of the other actresses on the set. Now the $ 50 million that Linda got from that divorce was a lot more money than she would have gotten playing Molly Brown. Actor Jim Caviezel. He was born in Mount Vernon, Washington. He's 58 today. His first starring role in a movie was in the war movie, The Thin Red Line. Then he got famous playing Jesus in The Passion of the Christ. Then Highwayman, Escape Plan.

13:11 You know, he played Jesus again. Yeah, he just got done filming. They're doing Mel Gibson. Yeah, he's doing The Resurrection of the Christ Part 1. And Part 2. It'll be out in 2027. On TVA, Jim, he starred on Person of Interest for about five or six years. He got married in 1996, and they have three daughters. Actress Zoe Perry is 43. She's born in Chicago. Now her mom, actress Lori Metcalf, she plays Sheldon's mom on The Big Bang Theory. So it makes sense that Zoe would play Sheldon's mom on Young Sheldon. Now she did have to audition for it. They made it all formal, but yeah, they kind of knew she was going to get it before all that started. She got married in 2022. All righty, our quote of the day. It comes from actor Paul Newman.
