09 Hi everyone, I am Jeff and welcome to History in Fact Duds about Today visited by cool Media. Today's January the twenty eighth, Today is National Kazuo Day. My aunt Carol, she was really into kazooz. Her and her friends nay marched in parades playing their kazoos for a whole lot of years in Georgia. In the eighteen forties, Alabama vest he invented the kazoo, but he didn't know how to make it, so he gave a specifications to a German clockmaker named that is von Kliggen. That is yeah, he was able to make that kazoo because there was there a cheap fun way to celebrate and be silly. Now, kids, they won't avenue trouble being silly and having fun celebrating left kazoos. Adults, you might feel a lott awkward and have to have a few adupe beverages. And then just remember you do not blow into a kazoo, No, you hum into it, and you have fun with your kazoos today.
11 All right, this is going on in entertainment on January twenty eighth. Back to nineteen eighty three and one album was business as usual by minute of work Man It work at the number one song with down Under. I s speak of my language. He just smiled, And give me sandwich, he said. Nicky Gilly he had the number one country song, Well talk to. Me, Talk to me, Talk to me, Starley of A, you say tall to me, Tall to me.
10 The number one book was Space by James Mitchner. The top movie was Tutsi. An unsuccessful actor, he dresses as a woman in order to get a roll on a daytime soap opera. Stars Dustin Hoffman, Jessica Lang and Terry Garth. All right, let's see it happened on January the twenty eighth, sixteen seventy one. Pirate Henry Morgan, he captured Panama City. I didn't take it from the Panamanian people, now, he took it from the Spanish. Eighteen oh seven in London, England, Paul Mall. It became the first lighted street light in the entire world. It lit it up with gas lights. Yeah, Paul Mall. Cigarettes they were named after the street. See the street it was really upper class. It had a lot of expensive stores and private clubs on it and stuff. So the cigarette makers they decided they wanted Paul Mall cigarettes to actually be the premier cigarette for the successful people.
56 Now we actually quadruple checked this just to make sure they wasn't a joke. Eighteen eighty seven, in a snowstorem up at Fort Cuff in Montana set a record for the world's largest snowflakes. The soldiers the ever find the snowflakes that were fifteen inches across and eight inches thick. Yeah, eat snowflake. Nineteen fourteen, Beverly Hills, California was formed. Now, wasn't named after a woman. No, it was named after Beverly Farms out in Massachusetts. So why Well, the guy who formed the city, his name was Burton Green. He had really fun memories of Beverly Farms when he'd visit Massachusetts. In the summer nineteen fifty, in the United States Congress, they combined the US Cutter Service and the us LFE Saving Service. It formed the US Coast Guard. Same day, the ship that William P. Frye it was carrying weight over to England. A German warship. They captured the fry They took its passengers and his crew, and they took it all hostiles. Then they sank the ship. Yeah, that was the first US ship sunk in World War One.
52 All right, skiers. It was nineteen thirty four. The first Squito rope began running No night here in Colorado was in Woodstock, Venom, Vermont. Nineteen fifty. Here's a really controversial murder case was taking place over in England. Nineteen year old Derek Bentley. He was convicted of murdering a police officer. It went back and forth. Finally they just hung him today. Well on the bright side for Derek Bentley, Yeah, they found out that he didn't do it after all. They pardoned him in nineteen ninety eight. Nineteen fifty eight. Lego the obviously they're patting for their interlocking Lego bricks. Supposedly a Lego brick that was made in nineteen fifty eight. It'll snap together with a Lego brick that just comes off the assembly line today. Now, this story just sucks on every level. It's just horrible. Nineteen sixty two in Zimbabwe, this guy, Johann rah Leink is out walking his dog when they were attacked by a swarm of bees. Now, as he was trying to protect his dog, him and the dog ended up jumping in the Guye River. Well, the dog couldn't swim, so he had to try and keep the dog's nose above the water. But he's trying to keep the bees from stinging the dog's nose, and then he was trying not to get stung himself. Yeah, So finally the bees they left, finally, so as him and the dog waded on to the bank of the river, a crocodile ate the dog hand. He was rushing to the hospital. Yeah, the doctors they pulled two hundred or two four hundred and forty three beast stickers out of it. So, just so you know, the world record for being stung the most time and living two four hundred and forty three beat stickers. Now, if you want to try and break that record, yeah, I just don't take your dog.
19 Now. Do you want to hear one of the crappiest songs of all time? It was today in nineteen eighty five. They recorded that thing after the British singers had that huge hit and made a whole lot of money with their song. Do they know it's Christmas? Yeah? It was out the famine relief out there in Ethiopia. The singers of the United States. I guess they got jealous that they weren't included, and they wanted to look like they actually cared about Africa, family and relief also, So they were all there. They were all in Los Angeles. It was the night before the Grammy Awards. Everybody who could sing was there. So they went and recorded the song We Are the World. Now, granted it was for a good cause, but let's be honest, that song just blows now I think about it, What would you rather do less?
18 Did you either listen to the song we Have the World or watch the Grammys? All right? The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster happened today. In nineteen eighty six. The Challenger exploded seventy three seconds after it left lifted off, killed all seven people on board. Now, the space shuttles program, it had gotten pretty predictable and it was pretty boring, you know. They were so routine about what they were doing. Nobody really paid attention anymore. So NASA they wanted to bring a little excitement back into the space program, so they decided to send up a school teacher up on the Space Shuttle fight. Well, it worked. You got kids from all over the United States who normally wouldn't watch the Space Shuttle. Yeah, they watched that launch, so I don't know if it really worked then or not. Now, the Space Shuttle cost three billion dollars. That O ring that failed, that had the whole thing blew up two dollars.
00 Stop coke joke, shuge dish Shibert Day. We're gonna pause. He left dish Shibirthday. We want simpletage. He like dis Shibert Day. And you know we don't get. Well, it's check out. 7:48 Get this, you've seen Banner right on Hogan zero's he was a model on a recruiting poster for the US Air Force.
